Privacy notice for the BuildCost newsletter
This notice explains what we collect when you sign up for the newsletter, why, and your rights under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).
Who is responsible
The responsible party is ArkhiTekton Studio (Pty) Ltd (trading as ArkhiTekton; company registration number 2019/602925/07), Pretoria, Gauteng, which runs BuildCost. ArkhiTekton Studio is registered with the Information Regulator (South Africa) under registration no. 2026-069460, with Meyer De Beer as its registered Information Officer. What we collect
- Your name and email address (required, to send the newsletter and to record your consent).
- Your province, only if you choose to give it, so we can highlight figures for your area.
- Your consent record: what you agreed to, and the date you subscribed or unsubscribed.
We collect this directly from you. Giving it is voluntary; no law requires it. If you don't give a name and email address, we can't send you the newsletter. The calculator does not collect or store anything you type into it.
Why we collect it, and our legal basis
We use your details only to send you the monthly BuildCost building-cost newsletter by email. It contains building-cost updates and tips, and may mention ArkhiTekton Studio's own architectural services. We process your details because you consented (POPIA section 11(1)(a)). We won't use them for any other purpose without asking you first.
Your consent and unsubscribing
We send the newsletter only if you choose “I give my consent” (nothing is pre-selected). Every email says who it is from and contains an unsubscribe link. You can withdraw consent at any time, free of charge: use that link, or email meyer@arkhitekton.co.za. When you unsubscribe, we stop sending and delete your details, keeping only your email address on a “do not contact” list so we never email you again. Withdrawing consent doesn't affect emails sent before you withdrew.
Who sees it
We never sell, rent or share your details for anyone else's marketing. We use an email service provider to send the newsletter. It acts only on our instructions, under a written agreement, and must keep your details secure. If that provider stores data outside South Africa, we'll only use one that gives the level of protection POPIA requires.
Website analytics
We may use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits in aggregate (for example, page views and which pages are popular). It sets no cookies and does not track you as an individual.
How long we keep it, and security
We keep your details only while you're subscribed, plus the consent record we need to show you agreed. We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to keep your details safe. If we ever learn your details have been accessed without permission, we will tell you and the Information Regulator.
Your rights
You may ask what personal information we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, or object to us using it. Email meyer@arkhitekton.co.za. If you're not happy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa): inforegulator.org.za, enquiries@inforegulator.org.za, 010 023 5200.
Changes
If we change this notice, we'll update the date at the top. We won't use your details for a new purpose without your consent.
